Captain America Defies The Doom Tube

It?s the 4th of July and the nation is ready for one almight celebration. Into the comparent calm of the White House bursts the manic Dr. Megalomann, "Step Down Mr President, submit to my rule or today American will know a plague from which death will seem a happy release". Time for good old Captain America to put on his tights, grab the shield and stop the doctor before he takes any further action against the people.

Graphics

Captain America has been done great justice on the good old Amstrad CPC. The levels are designed extremely well and are comparable to those from the Amiga classic Heimdall in the way that each room interlocks with the other one. The start screen is pretty genious too as you move the Captains hand about the computer screen and jump from floor to floor, they even added a touch of humour (try scratching Americas head for example) which indicates the authors had fun during development.

Colours are nice and sharp with some excellent detail in each of the various rooms you enter, captain himself looks great with all the red white and blue colours from his uniform showing in every detail. This is truly great stuff indeed and every fan should be well and truly impressed.

Sound

Sound is nice but the music seems to be lacking any kind of bass for an extra kick and can sometimes seem a little dull. There are plenty of in-game effects to go along with the music though which is certainly a good thing as I doubt fans of Captain America would be impressed without them, another nice job well done.

Gameplay

Most of our American visitors probably watched the cartoon when they were growing up and probably wanted to become the captain themselves while we in the UK were much more interested in our own brand of cartoon heroes such as the Real Ghostbusters and even Garfield the cat. For this reason the game will be better received by our USA readers but of course everyone in the UK will love it too.

The idea is simple, stop the Dr before he takes over American and puts forth that plague he was talking about in our introduction. Armed with your shield you must smash, bash and crush anything that gets in your way - good luck!

Well worth trying.
