Captain Blood is another of those games that all my friends were talking about when it was released and I just nodded along like I knew what they were talking about - obviously I had never seen the game before. Set in the deepest zones of space you are Captain Blood and that ship isn?t goint to pilot itself.

Graphics

Captain Blood uses some primitive colours to make the space scenes and a lot of them are simply the same images with new colours to give the impression of a different area or zone in space, it does the job but as you can see from our screen grabs it isn?t very convincing in this day and age. The game does feature some superb effects though, moving from one zone to the next will start an animation of stars flying past your screen, warp speed bars speeding underneath you and stretched stars slowing down to a halt.

Captain Blood features a pretty feature rich and nice looking user interfact as well so it?s a lot easier to move about the place than in many others from the genre, simply point the thinger and hit your fire button - now if only we had an affordable mouse on the CPC.

Sound

Sound is amazing, we are introduced by a nice piece of music by none other than Mr Michelle Jarre and it sets the tone of the game wonderfuly, in fact I doubt it could have been done better. In game sounds are again superb, the warping effect we mentioned earlier is accompanied by some great wizzing, wooshing, speed increase and decrease noises and you realy enjoy the experience. I for one just kept zapping back and forth for a while.

Gameplay

Those that are familiar with the Captain Blood series will no doubt already have this game in their collections, those that don?t put enjoy a little bit of strategy and thought when playing games then we recommend you hit the download button at the top of this review.

Be warned though this type of game doesn?t suit everyones taste and you will either love it or hate it - simple as that. If you are not sure then try if for yourselves before taking this review as concrete, as you should be doing anyway.
