Having recently been contacted by some of the developers of Rainbird we thought it would be nice to get a few of the games out of the closet and review them. In Carrier Command you will be in charge of a high speed, highly destructive carrier as you blow things up or perform strategic moves. This game almost has something for everyone.

Graphics

Carrier Command uses graphics similar to those seen in the earlier retro space classic "Elite" as the back engine and I must say it certainly isn?t a bad thing either. The colours are slightly sub standard though as we only realy get to see yellow and blue for the most part of the game, the interface is very well designed on the other hand with some excellent and well though out options scattered about your point of view.

The action fans among you will easily get to grips with the 3D engine and those that like nice and tidy strategic games won?t find anything to complain about either, given the combination of the two genres it has been done very well indeed. Though yet again we have to bring up the cursor and how much better it would have been if CPC hardware was just that little bit cheaper so we can all plug mice in.

Sound

Sound is not so impressive, there isn?t a spec of music throughout the game and the actual in-game sound effects are few and far between. While there are many good Rainbird titles this one certainly doesn?t meet the grad of some other titles, one that can easily be played with your speakers switched off.

Gameplay

Carrier Command is one of those games that only realy had play value in the first place for those that loved this type of strategy/action games. Those of you who are sitting reading this who do not like strategic/slow 3D action games will probably not find much in this game at all and can probably avoid to skip it and move on to the next one.

Those that like a good clean strategy game with a lovely interface and nice 3D engine should certainly give it a try. In the end it all depends on your taste in games and doesn?t apply to a universal audience. There is nothing that is fundamentaly bad about the title and if you enjoyed the original then you will still enjoy it today.

Bottom line, inconclusive, this is one you?ll need to try yourselves.
