Addams Family

Another movie license by Ocean Software, not at all based on the hit comedy series of the same name but on the movie adaptation starring Christopher Lloyd and a young Christina Ricci which did little to impress me at the movies.
Your treacherous accountant, Tully and his accomplacies are trying to throw you and your family out of your ancestral mansion. The rest of the family don?t want to leave and have hidden themselves in and around the mansion. You must find and rescue the rest of the family overcoming the many hazards which lurk around the house.
A story that very loosely ties in with the movie itself but as you will see in the review and after playing the game it makes a great family computer game.
Graphics
It wouldn?t be fair to compare the Amstrad 6128 version of the game with the Amiga 600 as technology had obviously progressed so we won?t do that, but we will compare it to other versions such as the Spectrum and the C64. The graphics are great and I must admit I was expecting a whole lot worse than this after playing the ZX Spectrum incarnation, the colours are great and rich with the added bonus that your character "Gomez" never gets lost in the background.
Sound
The music is also pretty damned good, although there is no music in the game itself just on the title screen which proves as a benefit because who could stand a looped version of the Addams Family theme tune? in terms of gameplay you must take into consideration that your character can jump pretty high and when combined with the direction keys you can easily fall down a hole or land on top of a monster and be killed - a little practice is advised before you get into the serious gameplay.
Gameplay
The levels are well designed with plenty of variation on monsters, ghoulies and traps plus you are not restricted to either an outdoor or indoor playing area as Gomez can walk in and out of the different buildings and rooms around the level. All in all there is something for everyone in this game and Ocean Software get the thumbs up on another good movie conversion.
