Ghost Hunters

Ghost Hunters should not be confused with Ghostbusters because a) it?s not based on a movie (that we know of) and b) its written by the Codemasters (who do not do movie licenses).
The story is that you play the part of Hank Studbuckle and your brother is trapped inside a nigshtmlarish mansion (like the one you see in Psycho) you must destroy the spirits of evil if they are to meet this side of hell! will he fail or suceed? his fate is up to you. So the aim of the game is to rescue your brother (Chuck Studbuckel), keep your "Macho Energy" above the danger line by drinking magic potions and get the hell out of there.
Believe it or not that is the only story there is to the game and as this is only meant to be an introduction I think you know enough about it for now.
Graphics
Ghost Hunters came as a surprise the first time I played it as I had no idea what it would be like, no review to fall back on as I don?t remember seeing it in the only Amstrad magazine "Amstrad Action" and there certainly wasn?t a demo to try and test.
The graphics are very well drawn indeed, I was playing this game on a green screen monitor for quite some time and it didn?t look blurred or over coloured. Codemasters have indeed overly used the tones of red and blue throughout the game but I think that it is supposed to give a creepy atmosphere and it certainly does.
Sound
Sound is average and with more than some unfortunate earlier Codemasters games had to offer, the most annoying thing about the sound is the looped creepy music at the start of the game - might be worth starting it as soon as possible rather than reading the high scores and credits. There are some great in-game sounds though that add atmosphere and there isn?t any looped music to annoy you.
Gameplay
Gameplay is a little bit of a let down as your controls are very strange indeed. Codemasters thought it would be a good idea to combine the shooting system of Operation Wolf to a platform game, how does that work I hear you ask, well you can run and jump like in any other platform game but in order to shoot any monsters you have to hold fire and move a target. That being said the game is still fun to play and you will keep coming back for another go.
