1942 sets you back during war times in which you must go out single handed and destroy wave after wave of nasty people in big ass planes and land vehicles. It sounds like a tough job but it also looks like the rest of the team are useless and you are the only and last hope against the enemy.
Based on the popular Arcade hit that is now emulated this is one of the first official home computer conversions but how does it look, what does it sounds like and is it playable at all? read our review below to find out more!

Graphics

We all know that the arcade was a regular coin muncher with plenty of gamers waiting to have a go and hammer those buttons and many of the conversions were more than adequate substitutes when you had no pocket money to go running down the local arcades.
The graphics in the Amstrad conversion are nothing revolutionary but they aren?t bad and you can tell what is going on pretty easily. Gone are the details of the land and sea as they get substituted for plain colour (blue and green) but that is expected as home computers in this time were simply not capable of the displays the arcade unit could pull off. All in all it doesn?t look great but it?s not the worst game of this genre to be released on the CPC.

Sound

The sound is pretty cool also, most games give you a soundtrack but no sounds in the game...1942 gives you plenty of sound in the game and a pretty cool theme tune on the opening menu screens. It?s not quite as good as the arcade but once again the hardware was slightly more advanced on the coin-op.

Gameplay

Gameplay is almost as high as the original but for those that have spent hours in front of the original unit back than and all those that have spent hours in front of MAME and tapping your keys like crazy will soon be shooting back to the original. The control system is a little off and somewhat unresponsive, try to avoid the bullets and most of the time you will fail.
