Nomad

Another shoot-em-up by the then mighty Ocean Software only this time it?s not a movie license and the game sort of benefits from this, we all know by now that movie licensed games are pretty average to very poor.
Nomad sets you in the place of an ultimate warrior in a futuristic combat suit that is armoured against everything and filled to the neck with the latest hardware for blowing things sky high - you?re going to need it. Set in the distant future you have to track down one of the most evil villains around and penetrate his defence system without getting yourself killed.
The game itself is a cross between Thrust (everyone should remember that one) and Atomic Robokid (not so sure if anyone knows this one, it?s emulated in MAME now though) which makes for a strange combination and a fairly great computer game. Well thats the bair bones, lets strip off some meat.
Graphics
As I said earlier this game can be compared to two classic arcade/computer games (Thrust and Atomic Robo Kid) so the control system is a little out of whack but it doesn?t distract you once you get the hang on things. It will also take you a while to realise which way your character is facing because I couldn?t tell his bottom from his head when I first gave it a go.
The graphics are more than average with a fair amount of detail and colour going into each and every sprite (character) in the game. Ocean have put some effort into this one as you will notice when you start the game, unlike Elite?s Airwolf the indoor arena and tricky controls do not force you to kill yourself without even having a chance to move - which is a good thing for sure.
Sound
The sound is pretty active and almost every sprite (character) in the game has his/her own designated sound when trying to kill you, of course you are limited to an average shooting sound and for some reason your jet pack is silent...I mean deadly silent, Robocop would be jealous.
Gameplay
If you loved Thrust or Atomic Robo Kid then this one will certainly have you hooked for a good few hours and with it?s tricky control system you?ll be coming back for more over again until you at least get it cracked. For those of you that find it a little hard it may be worth while to do a search for the cheat because I must admit it?s not for the average gamer and certainly not for anyone that easily gets annoyed at games.
