Set in the not so distant future a police officer is transferred to the lowly city of Detroit as one of the best police officers on the force. Its his first day on the job and he, along with his partner Lewis, is called out to deal with an armed bank robbery. Unlucky for Murphy the bad guy loves killing cops and before you know it Officer Murphy is shot to ribbons and left for dead. New technology means that Officer Murphy can be resurected as a cyborg and sent back out on duty without any emoitions, tiredness or the need to stop for a doughnut. Soon after he is turned online he remembers about his previous life and goes after those who murdered him and took his wife and kid from him - que a great movie....but what about the game?

Graphics

There is no doubt in my mind that the movie was a science fiction break through and I enjoyed it from start to finish - especially the Directors Cut on DVD, the arcade was also superb and as soon as it was emulated in MAME I downloaded and completed it. In comparison with the Arcade unit the Amstrad CPC version comes pretty close, the graphics are good looking, the soundtrack (although nothing to do with the movie) is kicking and gives you the urge to carry on shooting scum and the way sections of the movie have been implemented into the game (Photofit and Shooting Gallery) is just awesome. I was actually disappointed that the Photofit and Shooting Gallery sections were not included in the actual arcade game because they would have made the unit even more special.

Sound

Robocop has some of the best music ever featured in an Amstrad CPC game, we even remixed the music recently. In-game sounds are also on top form, once again showing Oceans dedication to great conversions.

Gameplay

Will it keep you playing the game though? well if you owned a real CPC computer then you probably had this game and will continue to play it on the emulators today, if you have never owned an Amstrad CPC but want to compare it to other conversions (its better than the Spectrum version) its certainly worth a try and last but not least if you are only an Arcade enthusiast then you may want to grab a copy of the arcade version and MAME. This is certainly one of the better movie to video game transfer ever to be released by Ocean Software and retro-gamers know just how many truly awful conversions they made...It doesn`t bare thinking about.
