Part 2 of After The War moves our hero away from the nuclear waste ground known as New York City and onto the enemy base that started this disaster.

This time instead of battling no good wimps on the street you?ll be blasting your way through the high-tech base of the people that started all this in the first place, along the way you?ll encounter some deadly robots, people who think they are "rock hard" in nuclear suits and have to overcome the powerful defence system.

Graphics

After The War comes in 2 parts, the player can select which one he/she would like to play but for the purpose of this review we will be looking at part 2, the first part should be available in the review archive shortly.

After The War Part 2 takes you into a totally new gameplay area with yet more great backgrounds and very well animated characters, robots and more to tackle along the way. You?ll also notice that our heroe has changed appearance along his journey and found time to change his clothes (probably always carries a spare incase of accidents). Unlike part 1 of the game it doesn?t suffer from any slow down when the screen becomes packed with enemies and yet again it doesn?t contain any bugs in the sprites (transparency etc) or anything else that could spoil the gameplay.

One thing we would like to pick on is the fact that the intro sequence to Part 2 is the same as the intro sequence to Part 1 - considering the different locations and the fact that the characters in the intro aren?t in Part 2 you would think the developers would either create a new animation or not use an animation for part 2 at all - never mind.

Sound

As for sound, well we get the same theme tune we heard at the start of the original game (not a bad thing because it?s pretty good) and even more action packed sounds to listen to while your blowing the crap out of the robots and humans with your machine gun - once again very well done.

Gameplay

Those of you that have ever played Robocop Vs Terminator on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis will instantly be reminded of that classic in this scrolling arcade style shoot-em-up. The idea is simple, make your way through the base without loosing all 3 of your lives and kill anything that comes towards you before they dispose of you themselves.

There are no annoying bugs to stop you from enjoying the game (slow-down, transparency etc) and the control system is simply superb. Like the original Part 2 is good fun and this time you are given a large machine gun to blast your way through the level instead of just punch, kick and elbow as we saw in Part 1. Those that have finished the fist Part should move on to the second and even if you haven?t played the first part of the game this makes a great game on it?s own.
