Split Personalities

Build up a split picture of a character by arranging the squares in the right order. The spinning cursor is controlled with the direction keys or joystick. You can make pieces of the picture or bonus items appear by pressing fire while the cursor is in the box.

The little screen on the right hand side lights up as you pass over each piece of the picture. This shows the correct position for the piece that the cursor is spinning over. If you want to move a piece of item, then put the spinning cursor on that particular piece, hold down fire and press down which ever direction you wish to move it.

There are several little doors opening and closing automatically - if they are closed, they act like the normal wall of the playing area, if they are open then the moving piece will disappear through the hole. If it is a piece of the picture then this is put to the end of the "queue" of pieces waiting to be brought onto the playing area. If it is a bonus item then it disappears forever. When you have completed a level the computer will wait for you to press fire before continuing to the next one.

Graphics

Do you remember those little square puzzles you would take to school for something to do during the lunch breaks? those ones that made a picture if you moved them around in the correct order? well Split Personalities is a computer version of the same type of game.

The graphics are as best as you would expect for this game and it has been converted to the C64 and Spectrum with little difference between either version. The stages have been very well designed and the finished picture (if you get that far) looks pretty good with plenty of colour. Our main complaint about the game is that the layout of the screen is a little confusing and if you don?t read the instructions (most people don?t) then you?ll be wondering what the hell you need to do.

Sound

Sound is great in this game, well as good as you can expect from a sliding puzzle game. Bug Byte have made the effort to add as much sound and music to the game as possible and it certainly has payed off, this is one of the most interesting features in this game. We also have a nice tune to bop along to at the start of the game, which is nice.

Gameplay

Gameplay is for those that loved the hand held puzzles only, those that hated moving squares just to create a picture you didn?t want to see anyway - if you hated them then you?ll hate this. It?s as simple as that really as Split Personalities offers nothing different to the boredom relieving game of old.
