The Sultan of Bagdhad, whilst on a state visit to England in the 14th century, had the very bad misfortune, to be set upon by a band of cutthroat vagabonds. They stole the poor Sultans treasure chest, containing his yougest daughters dowry of 6 priceless rubies.

The Sultants personal champion, loyal and miscular as he was, chased the group of robbers into Hampton Court maze. Here he was savagely attacked, then murdered. During the fight the rubies were dropped at various points about the maze.

The ghost of the bodyguard now roams the maze and attacks anyone who dares to enter. However, the bodyguard was never of great intelligence, and his ghost has retained the problem. You may therefore avoid the ghost if you are able to discover his weakness. The hazardous task before you is to enter the maze in search of the jewels, having collected the jewels you will be given five attempts in which to work out a magic word that will transport you back in time, to even greater riches.

Graphics

Yawn! maze games have never been a strong point in the 1980s or early 1990s and they only became popular when the mighty first person games appeared such as Doom by ID Software. This is Amsoft?s attempt at an entertaining maze like romp but it was a freebie and developed in 1984 we can?t expect that much or a thrilll ride.

The graphics are as basic as all of the early maze games, everything has been drawn using lines only so don?t expect to see any fast polygons wacking you in the face. The screen has to be re-drawn everytime you make a move around the screen and the only partialy scary thing about this game is the monsters that you?ll face in certain areas of the maze (they look pretty good you know!)

Sound

Sound is non-existent until you get killed, it was created by Gem Software and with the awesome sound behind other games (Oh Mummy for example) we sort of expected more from the game. I guess the code behind the maze is a little large and memory intensive so music could well have been removed due to this reason - who knows? if you do then contact us.

Gameplay

Gameplay is long and boring, there is nothing to keep gamers like us happy what so ever. You cannot move freely as the game asks "Which Way Now?" all the time and waiting for the screen to re-draw before being able to move is a little annoying. The game is controlled by the numeric keypad and you can easily view the map of the maze at any time by pressing 2 so that makes things a little easy but other than that this is one of the least entertaining games in the Amsoft freebie package.
