Agent Orange

Remembered by some but forgotten by many is this Shoot-Em-Up classic for the Amstrad CPC and similar home computers, the game itself is very similar to the later released Uridium and Uridium 2 on the C64 and Amiga family of computers.
Basically you blast your way through planet and after planet of nasty aliens and collect anything they leave behind before returning home with your findings. As you may have guessed we don?t know the exact story to this one so if you know it please send a copy to malc@emuunlim.com.
Graphics
Well to be honest I would be telling a false truth if I said this game had a good wide range of colours and great overall design in the graphics department as Agent Orange is nothing but a let down in this area. The game is restricted to only a few colours (red, blue, yellow and grey) and most of these are only used in the in-game menus, the playing field, your ship and any oncoming enemies are presented in a rather crude looking grey/black style (almost like turning the colour down on your TV). This is certainly not one of the best shoot-em-ups to hit the Amstrad as we can?t think of a good thing to say about the graphics.
Sound
The sound is also limited, there isn?t any music in the game and the actual in-game sounds are as basic as any of the games that came free with your Amstrad pack - considering this is full price software you?ld expect a lot more for your money.
Gameplay
Gameplay is very similar to the much better Uridium games on the C64/Amiga in the way that you simply scroll through the level and destroy anything that comes towards you. The controls can be either redefined on your keyboard or played via the Joystick (your choice) but the graphical glitches prevent you from being able to easily see were your ship starts and were the other (enemy) ship begins, because of this the game is almost unplayable and it?s certainly enough to make casual games hit the reset keys.
The game could have been so much better had MD but some good audio to use and used a little bit of colour in the game itself, the only good thing about the game is that the player can save and load after each level but seeing as most of you won?t even want to play the first level the feature is now a little worthless. Agent Orange has very little replay value and unless you?re a fan of this game you probably won?t want to play it again.
