Your mission is to rid the six sectors of the galaxy of their viloent inhabitants. You are equipped with the latest interstellar fighter craft which is armed with a deadly Kill-O-Zap laser weapon. You also have an experimental anti-matter cloaking device that will protect you from the alien attack but this should only be used in emergencies as it drains large amounts of precious fuel from your craft.

No wonder that guy looks scared....on with the review...

Graphics

The graphics in Ahhhh! (silly name we know) aren?t anything revolutionary but we also noticed that this is a conversion of an old ZX Spectrum game by the same developers so there shouldn?t be any doubt that the Amstrad version is better than the original. It?s a space invaders clone and as such we shouldn?t expect to much from the graphics, this is a good thing because we certainly don?t get much in return. The oncoming aliens are badly drawn (in most cases), they move about the screen faster than any of the other Space Invaders clones and you have nothing to hide behind. The colours are almost as basic as the original ZX version of the game which is something of a crime considering the obvious advantage the Amstrad had over the Spectrum.

Sound

Now the sound, well there are plenty of sounds to be heard on the information screens and just before you start and right after you die in the game itself but other than that everything is pretty basic with nothing more than that sounds you would expect from a game that says "Given away free, not for resale" on the label.

Gameplay

Anyone that has played Space Invaders (that should be everyone by now surely!) will instantly connect to this game but with the rock hard difficulty setting, an unresponsive control system, a laser that is only capable of firing 3 rounds at a time (usually missing the fast moving aliens) the player will soon become bored or annoyed and switch off the machine.

Considering this is a conversion of a ZX Spectrum title not a lot has been changed or improved along the way and considering the better hardware in the Amstrad CPC you would expect something a whole lot better than this.
