Climb-It

Climb-It is Tynesofts answer to what is one of the best loved classic platformers ever to be released and if it was released today I?m sure Nintendo would have something to say about it. Based on the classic Mario platformer "Donkey-Kong" you must avoid the barrels, climb the ladders and save the damsel and the top of the level from that raging Ape.

Graphics

The colour scheme on Climb-It is very similar to that seen on the original Donkey Kong game and is just another indication of the blatant rip-off tactics used by Tynesoft for this title.

Looking a little deeper you soon start to notice the massive flaws in this game, our hero is nothing more than a match-stick man and is poorly animated. The screen suffers from flicker problems due to items being refreshed and redrawn almost every second.

This is a well documented bug on the internet and has been discussed many times, try to jump in any direction and watch our hero take lunar space jumps (great distance covered but extremely slow come-down). As you can imagine this is one annoying bug.

Sound

Sound is very basic, there is no introduction music at the start of the game and the in-game noises are a lot more basic than the original Donkey Kong title. If this was the first CPC title you ever played then we can?t blame you for having a low opinion on the hardware, very poor indeed.

Gameplay

As we mentioned earlier this is a blatant and not very good rip off of the Nintendo classic "Donkey Kong" which saw our hero Mario trying to save the princess from the crazy ape throwing barrels.

The idea, graphics and to some extent the sound have been copied from the original. There are some major glitches however, the controls are simply awful and trying to jump the barrels takes a few tries before you perfect it (see the graphics section of this review for details why) and the graphics certainly do not impact you as much as the original once did.

All in all this title is best avoided and not worth playing at all.
