Crime is the disease, he is the cure. One of Stallones first movies hits the CPC in yet another movie license by Ocean Software. Based loosely on the original film you must beat the crap out of the bad guys and rescue Ingrid from certain death.

Graphics

Cobra was one of the first movie licenses I had played on the CPC, not the first but one of them. I must admit that I was very impressed by this title when I first played it and it still looks good today with some excellent colours on offer, a wide (and strange) array of bad guys and ducks that attack you along the way (yes we did say ducks).

There are no serious graphical glitches in the game and the collision detection works perfectly with next to no problems. The background can be a little misleading at times though because you often feel like you can climb static objects such as stairs but you can?t and before you work that out you have lost a life.

Sound

Annoying. To the point but true, there are various sound effects to go along with a very repetitive blues brothers type theme tune but thats about it. It?s not bad and is typical of Ocean software to do sound in this kind of way but it can quickly become a distraction and that is not a good thing.

Gameplay

As I?m sure you have read already from various sources on the web, this is a very strange movie license that only has small similarities between the game and the movie. For example if you want better weapons what do you normally do in a game? you pick them up right? not in this one - you eat burgers and a weapon springs out from under your arm. On top of this you are attacked by ducks! what they have to do with the movie is beyond us, Ocean obviously have a strange sense of humour or just ran out of ideas at this point.

As far as the game itself goes, it?s your average walk along and beat-em-up title and is very playable indeed. Despite what you may have read elsewhere about avoiding the title we recommend you at least give it a go on your old CPC.
