After moving into his new mansion, Oscar soon discovers that he is not alone in this big house, the castle is already inhabited by the Demon Grell and his minions. If Oscar is to save his soul from the torment of walking through the fires of Hell for eternity he must evict his unwelcome guests.

Graphics

Conquest is another of those excellent 3D adventures we here at CPC Zone love and hate (depending on the title) and Mastertronic manage to blend 3D rooms with 2D looking characters at great speed and a nice new look.

Unlike Ocean Softwares Batman title it would appear the Mastertronic wanted to try something different with Conquest it certainly feels slightly less 3D than the giganticly classic Batman title, does this make it any worse of a game? no it still looks awesome and plays at great speed.

However like so many games in this genre there are a few problems here and there, for example trying to walk into the next room can be troublesome as our hero simply doesn?t want to go through, with a few pushes of the keys and some persuasion he does eventually go through. Other problems include the infamous colour change that some characters show when they stand against other moving objects, for example our green friend will become red when he walks past a snake.

None of these "problems" harm your enjoyment of the game.

Sound

Sound is a little bit of a let down as Mastertronic are pretty much well known for quality, sadly there is no music at the front of the game and very little sound in the game itself. I guess they started to run out of memory space towards the end of the project as was the case with the CPC version of Paperboy. It?s not bad but could have been better.

Gameplay

The game plays much the same as the other 3D adventures you might have read about or played in that you walk around the 3D world, solve puzzles by picking up and using objects and avoid the nasties.

When compared to other favourites such as Batman it certainly holds its own and is well and truly worth playing if you are a fan of the 3D adventure genre. We certainly had fun back in 1988 (two years after release) and re-lived the fun today.

Grab it.
