After a long holiday you have returned to find the factory in a state of chaos. The machinery is inactive and the pies have stopped rolling off the production line. As the repair man its your job to get the factory working again. Theres plenty of work for you to do. The hoppers need filling, the generator and conveyer also need attention.

Graphics

Graphics wise TyneSoft appear to have attempted to pull of the trademark look of Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy, even the interface is startlingly familiar.

Unlike Jet Set though, our hero is much more detailed with a better use of colours both on himself and the rooms he walks around in. Games like this take a great deal of imagination just to come up with the "bad guys" that litter each room and considering the variation in this game we would say that TyneSoft have delivered quite nicely on that front.

Sadly the game is not without errors, the collision detection can sometimes be a little sensitive and our hero suffers from the moon-jump phenomenon we spend so much time talking about.

Sound

Sound is a major let down, unlike JSW and Manic we are not greeted with any introduction music and the in-game sound effects almost dont exist, the only sounds you are likely to hear are the few tones when we jump or loose a life. Very poor indeed.

Gameplay

Those that have played JSW or Manic Miner will instantly recognise the style of play in The Custard Pie Factory but will miss some of the brilliance used in Software Projects titles.

While we in no way are stating that this is a copy of JSW it does resemble it in various areas, though it is nowhere near as addictive, enjoyable or playable.

If you have never played JSW or Manic Miner by Software Projects then we can recommend you give this a try, if on the other hand you are a hardened fan of JSW this is one to skip.
