Alien 8 is a 3D adventure game starring our friendly little robot droid who has been sent to a strange world to investigate the weird happenings, room after room of deadly traps and beings await so be on your best guard or be destroyed.
Okay so we don?t know the full story but that?s about right :).
Graphics
After loading this game you?ll notice that the graphics are very similar to all the other conversions including the ZX Spectrum, the colours will almost match perfectly from room to room. Normally we would frown upon this but we know for certain that just about every 3D platform/adventure game like this has been converted in the same way and as Alien 8 was coded and released in 1985 we can?t hold that against it.
There are some great colours on show but the rooms mostly make use of various tones of the same colour (blue, dark blue, light blue etc) we?ve been told that his helps keep the game running at a steady speed and it?s probably true given the nature of the graphics in the game. All of the various rooms have been designed with high levels of imagination and look spectacular and very challenging to the games player.
Sound
Sound wise the game contains a nice bass filled introduction tune followed by the occasional bleep and bang in the game itself, if you listen carefully a tune plays while your character moves along beep by beep - a novel idea and one that was copied and used in so many spin-offs (Batman is just one example).
Gameplay
As for gameplay well the idea is pretty simple, just overcome the obstacles in each room by picking up and using objects along the way and remembering not to bump into anything sharp or the guardians of that room. It?s good fun all around and one that should have many gamers coming back for more over and over again, a wide range of games have been created using the same engine and nearly all come highly recommended by the staff at CPC Zone.
