One Hundred years in the future (well, 88 now!) and the invasion of a neighbouring planet by a power hungry alien race has gone horribly wrong. Now you, a mercenary, are being paid to help the defenceless aliens evacuate.
Budget re-interpretation of Williamsâ?? arcade classic Robotron 2084
Graphics
Chunky sprites are the order of the day and it appears the programming team have tried to recreate the feel and look of the arcade original. Their success is limited, however, like most arcade conversions and clones, the game is close but not quite similar enough for fans of the arcade. The sprites themselves are fairly primitive not only by todayâ??s standards but the standards of the time too.
Sound
Traditional space based shoot-em-up sound effects that are effective and cheery enough to add to the game.
Gameplay
All of the gameplay takes place in two areas the first where you have to defend the ships against the alien attackers and a second bonus level where you must pilot your ship through an asteroid belt. The action is certainly fast paced and frantic for even the quickest of gamers although the repetitive gameplay can soon become weary. The asteroid section moves too quickly for players to get accustomed to the change in scenario and is over before it has barely begun, more often than not!
Overall not a patch on the Robotron 2084 arcade game or even the CPC version of Smash TV. Thereâ??s little here thatâ??ll bring you back.
