Skiing, Ski Jump, Speed Skating, Bob Sled and more in which you must prove your skill and courage. Some will finish the course, a few will win medals but only one will win the gold.

That?s how Atlantis described the game at the time of release at just £2.99 but how does it compare to the bigger and much more well known Daley Thompson series? find out below...

Graphics

Alpine Games has been heralded by ZX Spectrum fans for years as being one of the best olympic event games ever released for the home computer, we here at CPC Zone for the most part wouldn?t agree with that statement as we still prefer the Daley Thompson series. Don?t get us wrong the graphics in Alpine Games are pretty nice to look at for the most part but don?t really match up to the detail and arcade look that Ocean Softwares Daley Thompson series has to offer, Some of the events look as if they are coded in Mode 0 (most CPC users know this is not nice) while other events (screen grab 2) look a little more appealing, still in both cases the amount of colour on offer is pretty low despite the fact that it takes place in Winter.

Sound

The sound in Daley Thompson games is also better than the sound in Alpine Games by a long shot, there isn?t any cool introduction music and only a few bangs here and there in the actual game - not quite enough to excite most players and certainly not what you would expect from an equally respected software house as Atlantis.

Gameplay

At the end of the day if you were to compare Alpine Games to other olympic games on the CPC you would have to agree that it doesn?t match the quality we all come to expect, sure the game itself still has some plus points but it?s not enought to be classed as the best olympic game ever. The 5 events offered are slow and don?t demand much input from the games player (press Q at the right time, alternate between 1 and 2 slowly to make your character run or ski) but at the release price of £2.99 you couldn?t expect much better.
