Sega did it again when they released this superb scrolling beat-em-up into the Arcades, more and more coins were pumped into the game and people actually queued to play it. One of the most attention grabbing points was certainly the attract sounds "Rise from your grave" and the dramatic background music.

Some evil sorcerer has taken a grand wizards daughter and is turning everyone into mindless zombies (shouldn?t be a big task to do that!) my guess is that you were once a supreme fighter but died during a battle and upon resurrection you are given the powers to turn from man to beast and ordered to save humanity and bring her back from the clutches of evil.

Altered Beast is far from being a boring run of the mill Final Fight clone and constantly had players coming back for more, but how does it compare to the home computer version? lets find out...

Graphics

Altered Beast is far from being an awful game and in fact its one of the most successful Arcade games in the history of Sega, the home computer version is no exception. The graphics (even though they are small) are quite well drawn and a good use of the colours available has been utilized throughout the levels.

Sound

The music from the original game has been incorporated into the levels and it sounds pretty good, however there are no in-game sounds so don?t expect to hear "Rise From Your Grave!" or "Welcome To Your Doom!" during the game because you won?t.

Gameplay

Gameplay is quite fluid though the screen tends to move slower (slower than the Arcade anyway) all of the options available in the arcade are present in the computer conversion and it?s very easy to get to grips with even if you?ve been living in a cave for the past 10 years and missed the original arcade.

All in all a fine conversion with great gameplay and enough to keep fans of the game going through to the end.
