Street Machine

Hone your driving skills and fly around a picturesque town of fields, trees, rivers and houses, through all sorts of weather conditions and take your rightful place as the champion driver.
Graphics
Once you get past the blocky sprites, youâ??ll find the little graphical touches (particularly on the later stages) appealing and you will warm to the bright attractive colours and differing scenery.
Scrolling is silky smooth and very fast, a faultless feature in this game and its easy to forget how old the programme is when in the full flight of a game.
One major drawback, however, is the way the screen pulses when you pull close to another car. This can be very distracting and will often lead to a collision and some precious time lost.
Sound
No music and only the whirrs and splutters of the engine to accompany you through the game. Not forgetting the odd bang when you slam your car into a fenceâ?¦ and the crashes of thunder in the second stages.
Gameplay
Fast paced and extremely addictive, youâ??ll likely find yourself hooked on Street Machine after only a few goes.
Although awkward to begin with, you will soon begin to master the controls and will doubtless be skidding around the track and overtaking on S-bends as you go! The car control is a nice feature and is fairly realistic in the dynamics of turning corners at high speed. (Hint: if youâ??re new to the game find out were your brakes are and USE themâ?¦)
Until you make it all the way around the track, youâ??ll be obsessed with making it and having one more go. Unfortunately, this pleasure rapidly diminishes when you realise that levels two and three take place on the exact same route only conditions are more treacherous thanks to the rain and snow you have to drive through, respectively.
A nice feature is the way you get the opportunity to try and repair your car sometimes when you crash (if you drive too fast into something then itâ??s a write-off â?? understandably). You get 60 seconds to nip up and down a list of car parts and fix the damage on them. Itâ??s a case of prioritising and patching-up where possible!
Street Machine is an interesting little racer while it lasts. Unfortunately, once youâ??ve mastered it, thereâ??s little replay value. Having said that though, itâ??s definitely worth a blast.
