AMC (Astro Marine Corps) is one of the most popular C64 shoot-em-ups going and the Amstrad version is no different, coded by Dinamic and released for the average RRP of £10.99 you couldn?t loose out on this title.
It sets you in the future as the leader of the AMC, an altered soldier designed to be the best in your field. Something has gone terribly wrong as mutants roam a planet and set out to destroy everything (including you) and you are the last hope - kick some alien butt.
Graphics
The graphics in the CPC version of AMC are very good indeed, our main character is well drawn, animated and coloured throughout the game. The enemies and obstacles are also very well drawn and coloured, the game keeps up a fast pace without much slow down along the way despite the very detailed and rich graphics. AMC doesn?t contain any serious sprite problems so you won?t be disappearing behing walls or overlapping with the enemy at any stage of the game.
Sound
Sound is also of a great standard, you can either have music and sound effects while playing (the sfx are a little quiet with this option enabled though) or just the sound effects should you get tired of the background music. There are plenty of explosions, shots and much more to keep you on your toes thoughout the game.
Gameplay
If you have played any other version of AMC (C64, Spectrum. Arcade) then I?m sure you will love the Amstrad CPC version as it is in no way a bad title at all. The control system is a delight and you will find yourself blasting the guts out of aliens within just a few minutes of getting used to the joystick or keyboard layout (you can also define your own keys should you find the defaults uncomfortable).
AMC is a fast paced action/platformer and can easily be compared to ther CPC classics like Ghouls N Ghosts which was also a massive arcade hit. There are no problems, nothing to put the game down and I think all arcade conversions should be as good as this one. Another CPC Zone recommended title.
