Welcome to the Amsoft golf course, to play this game you need to have some understanding of the game before continuing. During the game you will be asked to select club type, direction and strength of shot. Club and direction codes are displayed in the help screen and in the original inlay card (if you have it) as you tackle one of the toughest Golf courses ever assembled right from the comfort of your CPC keyboard.
Graphics
AmsGolf is another of the free games that shipped with various revisions of the Amstrad home computer, some of us were lucky enough to get a great pack and others - well they weren?t so lucky and we just hope you had other games to play at Christmas time.
Anyway, AmsGolf takes on the ever so easy top-down approach to the Golf game, giving the player a birds eye view of the course and of course saving system resources. Those of you that were unfortunate enough to purchase the Cascade 50 pack will instantly recognise the layout, the Amsoft version is of course a hell of a lot brighter than the poor Cascade release but the overall idea remains the same. There are some good colours on offer considering the approach the game has taken and it certainly looks better than some other Golf games on the CPC.
Sound
Sound is a major let down I?m affraid as the gamers is subjected to a few tones from the tiny speaker at the rear of the CPC, no music or great effects ever grace your ears in this one which is a shame really because most Amsoft titles are among the best on the CPC.
Gameplay
As for gameplay, well it?s not quite the same as the Golf games some of our readers might be used to as you don?t actually get any flash 3D graphics or great camera tricks or for that matter even get to see our player hitting the ball. In this game you are simply selecting a club from the available list, entering the direction you would like to swing and finally how hard you should hit it. It?s not exactly the most entertaining game in the bunch and I?m sure that most of you probably won?t play this game more than once.
Golf games did get better in later years on the CPC but during the time AmsGolf was coded this was probably the best you were going to see without standing on a course, wearing dodgy pants and hitting balls into tiny holes.
