Gremlin?s last major game nearly didn?t make it on the CPC, but thanks to Amstrad Action readers who bombbarded Gremlin with letters, it did. I must admit I was one person who did not send letters to Gremlin - at the time, I would have sent letters to Codemasters for more Dizzy games.. Anyhow, the point of this game - you control Nigel Mansell in a world of blue to try and win the World Championship.

You get various options in the game like the chance to goto driving school, race in a single circuit or go in a full race season. The game is so big, it takes both sides of a 3" disc. No tape version was made because of the size of the game - I was a tape only user at the time, so I wasn?t that intrested.

Graphics

MODE 1 is used here along with every possible shade of blue! The graphics are very good though and are very quick. Pictures of Nigel Mansell are very reconisable along with sponser logos.

Sound

During the menus and other non-in-game screens, a tune plays which is slighty irritating.

In game, you get realistic car sound which are good.

Gameplay

The game is tricky to get into, especially if you start it without setting the controls to joystick! Each race is hard but that?s the way I like it. Unlike other CPC racing games, Gremlin?s Toyota Celia Rally being an exception, you get rain and other weather conditions which can help or hinder you. Passwords are used to get you to various tracks in the season mode.

The constant flipping of the disc can be annoying at times and it takes time to get used to.

OVERALL

This game was one of the last classics of the CPC before the software houses started to leave it. Gremlin managed to produce one final classic for the CPC and I would recommend it to anyone.
