Roy Race is a member of a fictious football team which featured in a comic strip in Tiger comic (of which I?ve read one issue!). Their football team end up in all sorts of antics - in the issue I read, a reporter was spying on their meetings using hidden microphones and it backfired on him after reporting the team hired a monkey to be goalkeeper but it turned out the monkey was the mascot. However, Gremlin?s game involved the team being kidnapped before a major game and Roy had to rescue them before time runs out in a graphic adventure type game. It combines arcade control while incorporating pull down menus to select stuff.

Graphics

The loading screen and the set-the-scene screen are in full colour MODE 0 while it appears the game itself is either MODE 1 (more likely) or MODE 2. Everything is well detailed and the speed on some screens is good while on others it goes dead slow. Pull down style menus are good and all the text is readable.

Sound

Music plays on the title screen which is pretty crap while in-game sounds involve walking and occasional other sound effects which are also pretty poor.

Gameplay

The game isn?t very easy to get into while the time limit is a nice resonable length.

However finding your team-mates isn?t easy. Everytime I?ve played the game, I?ve not been able to rescue them. I also didn?t find the game addictive.

An intresting licence from Gremlin but I wouldn?t goto the trouble of hunting down a copy. If you do have a copy, it is worth checking out for curiosity value. One for fans of the comic strip.
