Ancient Battles

Another very early strategy game for the 8-bit home computer, this time you are fighting a battle that has long since been finished but perhaps this time you can change the outcome, battle against the computer or your friends in this strategic game by CSS.
Graphics
Ancient Battles does offer a little more detail than some earlier strategy games of this type but the colours are still that little bit basic with only green, yellow and red showing up more than any others. The battle field looks almost like a chess board with square tiles representing your army and different icons for each person or base, don?t get us wrong it?s a nice illustrative way of helping the player know who?s who but it still could be better.
Sound
The game also throws a few sounds your way which again is a bit of a surprise as most strategy games on the CPC don?t give you anything on this level. Okay it?s only a few bleeps every now and again but at least it?s something.
Gameplay
Strategy games aren?t exactly our field of expertise so to say this game is boring and dull would probably be a little biased, it?s not a bad little game (so we?ve been told) but it could be better. In the end the only people that can really decide whether this title has any replay value at all are those that have either played it originally on the Amstrad CPC computer (not emulators) or those that just want to give it a shot.
No doubt this game will be reviewed again in the future by one of our readers but for now, if you like this style of game give it a shot for yourselves.
