Andy Capp

It?s Monday morning and Fio is demanding your dole cheque. If you?re as big a skiver as Andy Capp, you?ve got a problem on your hands.
You?ll need every ounce of Northern charm to find out who has made off with it. Extracting helpful information from your friends will take a drop of dutch courage (but none of the pubs will give you credit). You?ll have to use whatevers left from the last dole cheque to buy a paper, check the racing pages and slide off to the bookies looking for a winner.
Graphics
Andy Capp does contain some very and we do mean very well drawn characters from the ever popular cartoon strip of the same name, those living outside of the UK need only know that Andy is a lazy, male orientated Northern man who likes to do nothing all day but get drunk and tell his wife were to go - makes an interesting read in our newspapers. The major let down about the graphics in Mirrorsofts Andy Capp videogame is the distinct lack of colour, all the user is presented with is a black on grey picture but once you realise how slow the game plays (Andy takes almost 15 seconds to leave a room) you?ll know why they left the colour to a minimum.
Everything about the game is well presented despite it?s side effects with some excellent animation and very well drawn characters from the original cartoon strip so it?s not 100% bad at all. Those with a green screen monitor will never notice the difference anyway, those with colour may feel let down after paying extra to play your games with at least 8-16 colours.
Sound
Sound is a let down also, okay they?ve added a few atmospherical sounds such as the clicking of Andy?s shoes when he walks and the bleep the speaker emits when you burp but other than that it?s pretty quiet. You are also treated to a rare amount of music every now and again but it?s nothing to get excited about.
Gameplay
The gameplay would be much better if it actually ran at a decent speed, even on a 6128 the game refuses to run any faster and it soon becomes frustrating walking about town at the pace Andy walks at. It?s a nice little adventure don?t get us wrong and basing a game on one of the most famous comic strips ever is no bad thing but coming from Mirrorsoft you would expect something a little bit better.
Andy Capp may look nice but that? s just about all the game has to offer the player, replay value will undoubtedly be low on this title but it?s worth checking out just for the typical UK jokes it contains.
