Games like this very rarely have any kind of storyline and it?s certainly not an exception in Codemasters case. Despite having the words "flight simulator" in the title you?ll soon realise from our review that this is the only thing the game has in common with flight sims.

Blast your way through wave after wave of 1943 style enemies in what is meant to be a simulator.

Graphics

The graphics in the latest Codemasters offering left the gamer in a little bit of a confusion, surely since the days Dizzy was released the team could have improved the colours used in the CPC releases - as you can see from our screen grabs little to no improvement has been made. Us poor CPC owners are still stuck looking at greens, lighter greens, black and of course the inevitable reds and whites. Taking on the now old "black = evil and white = good" approach Codemasters haven?t gone in to a massive amount of detail at all on this one, the game also shudders as it moves up the screen and is most likely a problem with the coding - not a lot new there either.

Sound

Sound is what we expect from good old Codemasters titles as we are treated to plenty of cool music at the start of the game and lots of in-game sounds to fill the empty space our CPC speakers were often used to - considering the game peaked at around £2.99 in the UK we couldn?t really complain at this effort.

Gameplay

Now as we mentioned in our brief introduction the game is meant to be a flight simulator, well from the moment you hit the space bar and start play you?ll notice that the game is nothing - ans we mean nothing - like a flight simulator. Imagine the Capcom classic scrolling arcades and you?ve got a much clearer idea of the game - quite why Codemasters stated this was a flight simulator is beyond us but we?re guessing it was to pull in more sales of a budget title.

Providing you remember to pull your plane off the ground (press back on your joystick) before you hit the bushes you?re left with little else to do, okay you could shoot down the black enemy planes that follow you but considering they aren?t exactly intelligent and don?t often try to shoot you there is little point. The gameplay area is a little small per stage and you?ll soon find yourself flying in the opposite direction to make sure you killed all those bad guys and collected the items from the ground - not much fun really.

Codemasters are capable of much better games than this and if you?re looking for a flight simulator then we certainly suggest you keep well away from this one - it?s a lie!
