After the massive battle that left a trail of destruction in the sequel it seems that Doh is still intent on destroying the galaxy and has once again opened wave after wave of deadly enemies and blocked exits to the next area with bricks. Destroy them all and finally kill Doh in this the 3rd of the Arkanoid series.

Graphics

At first glance Arkanoid 3 doesn?t quite look as colourful as the original or it?s sequel but once you progress to the later levels you soon realise that nothing has been lost and colours, graphics and level designs are still as good as all the previous versions of the game. We also noticed a significant boost in the games playing speed while moving our bat left and right but also noticed some speed decreases after power-ups/downs pop-out of the bricks above. It?s nothing major though and the game still remains as playable as ever.

Sound

Sound is again 100% spot on with yet more awesome theme music at the front of the game, well-done and life lost music during the game as well as the usual high quality sound effects that were seen in the previous versions of the game. It?s nothing massively new but it?s just as good as Arkanoid 2 if not slightly more funky.

Gameplay

Gameplay is as you would expect, superb. If you have never played Arkanoid or Arkanoid 2 then the game is that little but more playable than to those that have played the first two, because of a lack in new features or overly great level designs it looks a little like the originals and plays almost exactly the same also.

The idea is much the same as the other two, blast the bricks above by either using the ball or the power-ups that sometimes fall from the bricks you knock out, once you?ve killed everything on screen you?ll be able to move on to the next level. Another thing we noticed that was different about the 3rd installment is that you don?t have to move to the next level yourself, the computer will do it for you and present the next level.

Arkanoid 3 is just as big as the other two games so it?s going to take a whle to complete it, the authors have made up for it this time though by giving you a lot more lives to play with (you only have 3 to play in Arkanoid 2) which should encourage those that have never played the other two games for any length of time to give this excellent breed of Breakout clones a chance.

Worth trying out and that?s for sure!
