Arkanoid 5

This is the final outing again the evil Doh who has made almost as many appearances as Freddy from Nightmare On Elm Street, again the galaxy and those that populate it are threatened and unless you battle your way through the puzzliing waves and destroy all of the enemies the evil Doh will take over the world - I say let him, you?ve done enough to save the world already.
Graphics
Well it?s getting a little tiring now and as you might have guessed very little changes have taken place since the 4th outing other than brighter colours (the developers removed most dull levels) and slightly odd looking bad guys - but then again you?ve seen all this before in Arkanoid 2 and 3. Level design is still on top form with what looks like an easy challenge to start with leading in to rapidly harder levels later in the game.
Sound
Sound is once again on top form although the music is repeated from the 4th game and all other sounds are the same as those found in the previous releases, not a bad thing we know but considering this is the final outing it could have been done better.
Gameplay
Arkanoid is a great breakout clone and one of the most addictive in it?s genre but with Taito and Imagine releasing new versions as rapidly as they did (5 of them) the game hardly manages to settle on your desk before a new version hits the shelves. Each and every sequel to the original Arkanoid game has it?s good and bad points somewere but the gameplay remains identical.
The thing that made Arkanoid the game it was is the power-up and power-down feature but this has hardly been improved as the game has gone along, power-ups and downs remain the same after the second outing right up until this 5th game. It?s still very playable and addictive but it?s nothing we haven?t seen before.
Arkanoid hits number 5 but it?s not that different - worth playing though.
