Another of Amsofts little gems straight out of the box that easily contends to some of the bigger name games. This time they tackled the Grand Prix series of games and it really does pay off, the story is simple - race the track and come in first place while trying to stick to the road.

This was another of the "Not To Be Sold Seperately" series that came with one of the better Amsoft game packs so not only could you not complain even if you hated the game but you got the game for free in the first place - at least it filled a slot in your collection.

Graphics

Another Amsoft game and another stonking classic that most people should remember playing, maybe not straight away but as soon as this game loads it should fill you with retro energy.

The graphics are a little basic but better than the Atari 2600 game Pole Possition (which incidentally sold a packet here in the UK) but there are no major glitches in the graphics at all. The tracks are well drawn, as are the opposing vehicles and your own point of view. A good use of colour has been used to make the track look authentic and everything looks great and proper.

Sound

Sound is also pretty great, okay those that love music in Amstrad games might be a little disappointed in this one because Amsoft decided not to add any to the finished game. The sound during the races are pretty good as you hear the engine change gear and gradually become louder as your engine roars.

Gameplay

Gameplay is brilliant, this game only takes about 10 minutes to load on the real Amstrad machine (cassette) and when you compare that to some absolutely poor GP games you cannot complain at all. The graphics are enough to keep you loading that tape and playing, the sound should be at a load volume and you won?t want to turn it down, the controls are a dream and actually come close to the real handling of GP vehicles which as been added to current simulators so even the best race-em-up players will have a challenge with this one.

There are no faults in this game at all and it didn?t come with an expensive price tag attached to it (like some) plus if you had this game in your Amsoft games pack you were envied by a few of your friends because they got Monopoly in the place of this gem.
