Ashkeron

Little to no detail is known about this text adventure so we won?t bore you with the background info or anything like that. All you need to know is that Ashkeron isn?t a bad little game and it certainly beats some of the BBC adventures as you?ll see in the review below.
Graphics
Yes it?s another of those typing games that were ever so common in the mid to late 80?s on machines such as the BBC and even the ZX Spectrum, Ashkeron only differs from most CPC games by the fact that it contains a lot of visual aids to make the game that little bit more interesting to the budding adventurer. While the colours used in the illustrations at the top of your screen are limited they still set the scene quite nicely and is a much better way of showing the games player the area they are standing in as opposed to the typical text after text that most games of this genre serve you.
Sound
Believe it or not this game actually has sound, something that shocked us at the time because our speakers were on loud (we didn?t expect any sound) and on it came, talk about jumping out of your seat. We didn?t turn the sound up though, no quite the opposite actually as all we were treated to during our hour of gameplay was the sound of footsteps, granted we didn?t get very far but you know what we mean. A nice touch to a genre that usually has nothing but not massively enjoyable.
Gameplay
Gameplay is pretty much the same as every other adventure game, walk north, south, east or west and pick up or use items along the way. The only good things about Ashkeron are illustrations to make the game that little bit less boring and the odd sound here and there. It?s not going to keep most of todays gamers happy for long but if text adventures were your thing back in the good old days of the CPC it might be worth checking out.
