Asphyxie

Asphyxie is I guess a foreign term for olympics as that?s the kind of game this is, you?ll be competing in such events as the 100 metre dash, the shotput and more to become the worlds ultimate olympic champion. Sadly though you?re going to need another two people to play against as you?ll see in our review.
Graphics
Those hoping for a game close to the classic Daley Thompson series are in for a shock as this french based Olympic game is not anywere near close to the quality of graphics on offer in Oceans classic. Okay the game was released in 1985, a long time ago but still we?ve seen a lot better than this one by many other software houses, the graphics are tiny, your players are little more than pink matchstick men and the fact that the game has to "draw" the crowd in the background on screen just about puts the icing on the cake. Courses are small, events look very silly indeed and almost nothing like the real thing and that blinking crowd thing at the end of a level is just silly and 100% unrequired. This game will not impress anybody graphically and certainly doesn?t push the CPC to any limit.
Sound
Sound isn?t overly bad however with an at first nice then annoying introduction song that continues to play until you enter the names of your 3 players. Once the game has drawn itself on the screen (read the paragraph above) a tune common in even the later games will begin to play, other than that though there?s nothing to hear.
Gameplay
As you can expect the gameplay doesn?t hold up for long either, for example in the first event (the 100 meter dash) it would take thingers as fast as the fan over your PC?s CPU to come first as the controls are practically useless. The fact the game is written in French (we think) shouldn?t cause any serious problems however but it?s still not going to keep anyone with half a brain interested, fans of the CPC might be shocked by the awful quality this game offers and it does nothing to better the Amstrads reputation as a great machine.
We say avoid and highly recommend the later games in this genre such as Daley Thompsons Decathlon or Supertest.
