Dear All
I have come across some videos on you tube about an unimaginably strong CPC. This CPC features an OS called SYMBOS, 4MB of memory and HD. What is this? From where can I buy it?
please post the link here :)
what do you plan to do with such a super CPC? ;)
SymbOS Amstrad CPC - Pre-emptive Multitasking Demonstration - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ish4ReOjdIw)
Captain Future on Amstrad CPC with 4 MB RAM expansion - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBK2_LBDl6Y)
Not sure if he has 4MB connected, but as it's Prodatron, it'll be a SymbiFace (no longer available, but there are new solutions on their way) and SymbOS can be downloaded and doesn't need 4MB to run.
Bryce.
From where may I find all this tremendous pack to buy it? How much does it cost?

Well, yes. This CPC uses 4 MB of RAM. But not Symbos which can't use more than 1 MB only. The OS shown here is my good old FutureOS, which supports 4 MB of RAM and in this case it uses the 4 MB for showing a video. :)
The SymbOS video use 576K RAM, not 4MB.
So get yourself an x-mem and x-mass[nb]TotO, I still have problems with that name. It just doesn't do this piece of hardware justice. It needs a grander name.[/nb] and download SymbOS and you're sorted.
Bryce.
X-MEM, X-MASS sound close... And it was about Xmas release. :-\
But, you should name it X-MASS-STORAGE. ;D

I agree! SymbOS is the best ever! And the good thing about it that it is for free!! You can download it from www.symbos.de (http://www.symbos.de)
The nice part is that it runs on the MSX and CPC and now also on the Enterprise 128 Machine! And even better.. if you want to develop applications for it it's very easy!
Currently working on 'Sega Columns' That would be run on 4 colors to!
(4 color mode)

(16 color mode)

(16 High res. mode)
Oh and this is also a nice screenshot with dual display on the MSX ;) (BDW: It is very difficult to get to the maximum of 1024.... i never got so far :D)

How do you get dual displays on an MSX?! (Or is this picture spliced?)

It is a virtual dual screen using the GFX9000 (V9990) video chip on the MSX. Would be cool if someone create this Videochip also on the CPC.. as it is an I/O based card i think it would work!! It is a very nice video chip. That was created for the MSX3 but that was never released. So it's still retro :D
It's sad to only use 16 colours on a V9990. :-\
Is windows are blitter accelerated?
A CPC using it is easy to acheive...

I think if someone is trying to make a gfx9000 for the CPC maybe prodatron would build a higher color version for symbos :)

Sure, but it is not the best to do for improving the CPC display. Is the users will like to display screen modes that no more look and feel with the CPC?
I'm not really sure...
A new Video Chip? We had that discussion couple of times. Well, 256 colors under a fair resolution are a prerequisite IMHO, else where's the gain?
Maybe an expansion that could improve the current video modes allowing 16 or the full 27 colors to be displayed on all screen modes. It would be an improvement and still would be CPC-like.

Yes !
27 colors in Mode2 would be amazing :o
Maybe 16 is more optimal when it comes to memory handling, but yes, definitely it would be awesome! You'll need 64Kb to hold a screen, so it would be complicated to use double buffers, but for games with single screens could be suitable.
CAN anyone post me the link of the company to buy this amazing pack?

It will blow up amiga or atari 8)
Especially with symbiface and/or Bryce mouse support.

The 4 MB you can get here with some luck:
CPC4MB RAM upgrade -- 8bit Projects For Everyone (http://8bit.yarek.pl/upgrade/cpc.cpc4mb/index.html)
And FutureOS (to manage all that RAM) you can get for free here:

I think Bryce already replied (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/amstrad-cpc-hardware/4mb-of-memory-symbos-hard-disk-how/msg92646/#msg92646), but here again:
If you are speaking about the CPC you need...
- CPC (6128, if you are using the SYMBIFACE II, otherwise any one)
- MotherX4 + X-MEM + X-MASS or SYMBiFACE II
- SymbOS CPC (http://www.symbos.org)
If you are speaking about the MSX you need...
- MSX2
- (optional Graphics 9000, but 512x212x16 is already possible without it)
- memory mapper with up to 1024KB + mass storage device like IDE or SD card interfaces
- SymbOS MSX (http://www.symbos.org)
For any details just send me a PM :)
CU,
Prodatron

Sure, that's the reason why the SymbOS GUI can handle 54KB video ram (512x212x16) already on a normal 3,5MHz MSX2 (no TurboR, no GFX9000) at a similiar speed like 16KB video ram (320x200x4) on the CPC in most situations :)

Hello all.

Video FutureOS under 4mb is invalid. This is an emulator that runs, not a real CPC. :P
Otherwise Prodatron, shame about the links of your website on symStudio are dead. :(

Of course it was made using an emulator (WinApe). If you want to see a video from a real CPC, just donate me a professional video camera and I will be glad to make any kind of videos for you. :P
BTW: One of my CPC6128's has 4 MB RAM and 2.5 MB FlashROM internal. You don't even see it from the outside. 8)

? ? ?
Why don't you use a smartphone for making the video? Every mobile can make videos today.

You are right, please write a PM to Trebmint or to me if you want the actual version from this January 2015. The new official one will be released during the next weeks, and after that we will have a website again :)

For reasons I will not buy a smart phone. Sorry. But I may see what I can do and how I can help. :)
