Amstrad DMP 2000 Dot Matrix Printer
Hey guys, been frothing over problems with this printer for 24 hours, maybe someone here could advise. I am adamant that I can fix this myself!

Bought this item from France that was supposed to come with a Dart Scanner. However a Genius Mouse and Dk Tronics Interface turned up instead.   >:(

So not to let it go to waste, changed French plug to 13 AMP UK with 3 AMP fuse.
No earth lead fitted. Power up AOK. Changed DIP to English settings.
Cleaned out dust and any gunk/melted glue mess.
Sprayed guide rails with GT-85. Loaded ink into ribbon cartridge.
Printed 2 test pages fine!

Tried then to print off spreadsheet via Amstrad 464 in Mini Office II.
Printed 1 sheet AOK. Now printer will now not go on-line or load paper.
Does not beep on startup. Does not print test page.
On start up it prints a short burst of text without the head moving in intervals of 1 min for up to 20 min if left.

Suggest internal fuse, component blow out or motor malfunction?

Would like further advice may be able to fix myself. Would be very useful for print outs.

Cheers James

First I'd reseat any socketed IC's to make sure they are fine. But I doubt that's the real issue. Most likely one of the capacitors has failed. This can happen sometimes if the device has been in storage for years. They work fine for the first few minutes and then they fail. visually inspect the electrolytic capacitors. It will either have bumped up on the top or may even have leaked.
