Would the NiCd battery have been any good after so many years?
I am assuming people replace the cells with something modern (did that with my Epson HX 20)?

The ppc uses 8 D-cell batteries and they last like an hour so i could choose the color led display any day of the week in place of the batteries "feature"  :P

Maybe you could fit another 12 V modern battery in there... in addition to the electronics for the TFT.

12 V... hmmm.. did somebody say car battery?

a 3000 mah 11.1v lipo could be shoved there and a regulator that should last long than the original D cells.
