CPC 6128 & CTM-640
« on: 23:09, 20 April 10 »
Hello again,

I have a spare CPC 6128 that came with an original CPC 464 colour monitor (CTM 640), but this monitor is a little bit different than CTM-644 that was originaly made for CPC 6128.
s it possible to connect it to my CPC 6128, and what I have to modify ?

Regards,
Doktor

Yes you can connect your 6128 to a CTM 640!
But you need a seperate 12v= power supply to what you need to connect the outgoing cable from the 6128.
It needs 12v for internal floppydisc drive.

Difference between CTM 640 and 644 is the 12v jacket in front of the monitor, which provides 12v.

Small warning: do be carefull if you use a power adapter. I tried to use a non-standard 5V adapter to power one of my 6128s and it ended up quite dead.

One thing that you can do that is quite safe is to use like a mp2 to power you 6128 and still connect the video to your CMT640. Perhaps it isnt pretty, but its quite safe (than frying your 6128 with untested stuff).

I'll agree with Cholo - I have fried one myself that way and I'm still to this day not sure why. But an MP2 or MP3 will work like a beauty...

Hi Doktor,
converting a CTM-640 to a CTM-644 would also be possible, but it's not something I'd advise for a "Hardware-beginner" to try. If you are confident enough to do the conversion, I can put together a description of what needs to be done, but be warned, it involves building a small circuit and soldering inside the monitor on the power circuitry. Due to the the fact that CRTs carry very high voltages ( >1000V ) and lots of capacitors that need to be dis-charged before working on the circuit, I really don't advise this, if you're not sure of what you're doing.

Bryce.

It's really not too hard to find a 12v power supply and connect the 6128 to it ;)
Better choice for you: buy a CTM 644 for your 6128 ;)
