Title: CPC 6128 write protect pin trying to escape!
Post by: bleeper on 22:43, 20 June 10
Hello, my beloved 6128 has an annoying problem - every time I eject a disk, the little write protect pin springs out. Therefore making every disc read only, leaving it rattling around the case meaning I have to physically re-insert it.

Has anyone else ever had this extremely irritating problem?

Hello mate,

How does the pin spring out? I mean, it really sounds weird' have you been opening your drive up every time and checking for the pin? Or is it spitted out? Or...??

It seemt that the switch, which is under this pin, is malformed.
I would check that and bring it back into a better position.
This switch is a simple construction: 2 metal stripes where one has a plastic nose @ it's end.
This nose has contact to your pin, when the PCB is in it's right position.
Check, if the stripes are straight and parallel.

Ahh I know exactly what the problem is and it's all my fault!  :-[

I mistakenly thought the pin enters on the disk side 'downwards' rather than the PCB side 'upwards'.

Having it this way has worked fine for years -I am amazed it never started to pop out sooner than it did!!

Thanks for the replies :)
