Title: CPC Tape Deck
Post by: kofol on 09:56, 08 February 12
Hi everyone. I need a bit of advice.

I recently got a CPC 464 from a 2nd hand shop in a good condition (although the tapes I got along with it were terrible).  I played around with it a bit, and I found that it kept making this jumping sounds (like little bursts of speed) on all the programs I tried to save on cassette. The longer the program, the more disasterous the results. It looks like it was the pinch roller.  I felt on the surface of the roller and it was very uneven.  Is there any way to smooth out the pinch roller, without me having to kill another 464?

If it has "Gone Oval" then there's not a lot you can do to save it, but these parts are pretty standard so borrow some new pinch wheels from and old music tape player as a replacement. This happens if it has been stored for a long time with the play button pressed. If it's just general unevenness (Is that a real word?) then you could try cleaning it with some fine sandpaper and see if that helps.

Bryce.

Kewl. I suspect it is the play button thing, because there is a small bump just on one part.  Maybe I can get lucky with an old tape deck lying around here somewhere ...

Thanks for the help, Bryce.
