Title: DDI-1 Conversion for use without an FD-1
Post by: Bryce on 20:38, 20 April 11
Hi all,
last week I sent Awergh a DDI-1 so that he could connect a 3.5" drive to his 464. What I didn't know (you learn something new every day) is that a DDI-1 won't work without an FD-1 attached, because it actually got it's power from the FD-1 and not the CPC. Not detered by this, I've put together a guide to explain what needs to be done to get around this problem. The description and a few pictures can be found here: http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/DDI_Modification

Bryce.

Huh. You do learn something new every day, I thought the FD1 also had the disk controller in it and thus, even if you power the drive somehow and you make all the right connection it would still not be able to communicate with the CPC... very interesting.

But I don't see how this would deter third parties from doing the same hack if they put their minds to it?
