Title: DDI3 load data issue
Post by: kingtreelo on 15:47, 30 April 21
Apologies if this has been asked before,
Most of my games work perfectly fine on my DDI3, but games such as Rockstar Ate my Hampster get to the "data load" screen, says press play on tape and then nothing happens.
Is there something i should be doing, i have tried inserting my original tape and that doesnt work....help!

Sounds like you got no DOS ROM at position 7.

If that was the case then he wouldn't have said "Most of my games work perfectly fine on my DDI3".

Those particular games obviously aren't detecting the drive or they are rips of cassette games. Have you tried finding an alternative version of the non-working games?

Bryce.

Nah, if it tells "Press Play on Tape" then the DOS ROM is not available. Or the upper system RAM is overwritten. Other games run because the DOS ROM is there, but not at 7.

If a drive is missing or not detected it would be a different error message. Try yourself.

If I type |Tape and then Run"xyz" it also asks me to "Press Play then any key" too, although I have AMSDOS in ROM7. Maybe the games are doing something similar? And the fact that other games load from disk would suggest that ROM7 is fine.

If you run a binary file directly, the disc rom will not be initialized, the binary file itself should then re-init it, if it uses further file access.
One could load the binary from basic and execute it by ie. memory &1ff:load"blahblah.bin":call &200
Then the disc rom would still be initialized.
Could be the problem, could be other things too :)

Just to clarify, this isnt asking me to press play on tape when i first run the game, only for a data load section
ie. i run the game, play a short section, then i need to load more data from what was the reverse side of the tape
