My 664 is new and hasn't had a belt change and reads the disks I bought as blanks better than my 6128 and DDI-1. Both of them I've changed the belt on, the 6128 had melted and it took a long time to make sure I'd removed every trace of the black gunk.

I did not have lithium grease and though it better not to put something else on instead, best to wait until the grease arrived and apply the right stuff.

I've seen the info about drive RPM but I'm picking up that I should be very cautious with that and only consider changing drive RPM if things really are broken, so it would seem to make sense to do other maintenance first.

On the datacorders I have changed both belts, and some rubber restorer arrived today so I'll strip down the datacorders and see if i can get the rubber on the wheels a bit more grippy.

Should I be applying lithium grease anywhere on the datacorders?

Is there anything else I can do in the way of maintenance for the moving parts in my CPCs to help their long term health? I do not intend using flash storage so I'm keen to get the datacorders and disc drives as healthy as I can.

I just finished cleaning all the gunk from the capstan and pulley and cleaned the heads. I used vaseline on the worm drive.

Drive works like new!

As for the tape deck I used vaseline in the gears and moving parts. Works a treat!
