Hi all,
trying to connect an 17" LCD to my Schneider CPC 6128 via the GBS 8200..
I have followed the instructions in the manual and connected the wires according to : https://www.octoate.de/articles/connect-cpc-to-vga-display/
The menu of the GBS 8200 is displayed, but beyond that I only see "no signal" on the screen.

Any idea what the problem is?
I suppose after all my testing that the GBS is broken.

Thanks

Hello,

I don't know if this will help you.

Here's a tutorial in French from @Millsticks which performed the same operation :

Thank You ... unfortunately I see no difference to what I have done.

This may be the most stupid question I've ever asked online, but... Have you selected the correct input in the GBS8200 menu? Because even if only the ground and sync (or green signal) were connected, the GBS would detect a signal. If it's not detecting anything, then we need to go back to the basics.

Bryce.

I tried the auto scan several times and set the input to RGBS via the select input button.
No signal ...

Thanks

can you take some pictures how you connected it?

Strike4711

Sure ... please see attached pictures

It has been quite some while so I don't remember the exact setup, but the CPC only has composite sync and no separate sync for H and V. You probably need to connect the sync on the monitor connector to the grey wire and leave the yellow cable untouched.

Once it is working I would strongly recommend to install the GBSControl mod as it will make the GBS 8200 much more compatible and reduce lag significantly.

Yes ... that's what I did.

I have already ordered another GBS.
Hope that this one will work.
Keep you posted 😉

The new board arrived today.
And ... it works  :D
The picture has some minor noise but OK for the first test.
I think I will switch to a VGA cabel also on the input side.
Suppose that with the correct shielding it will be better.

Eto has mentioned a mod for the GBS. What mod are you referring to?

Thanks again guys for your support.

GBS Control mod

On the CPC the most important aspect is probably, that it will support many more games that otherwise won't sync correctly. E.g. Ghosts'n Goblins is unplayable with an unmodified GBS.

Has somebody already tested it for a CPC?

Sure... That's why I recommend it.

With GBSControl mod many more games work. E.g. Ghosts'n Goblins will not work without the mod.

What were the results with Ghost 'n Goblins? Is it a smooth scrolling or somehow distorted or delayed?
Have you also tested it with Edge Grinder (by chance)?

Ghosts'n Goblins: runs perfectly with the GBS8200 + GBS Control mod (but not without the mod).
Edge Grinder: I am not 100% sure if I have tested it with the GBS8200 or a different LCD TV. Edge Grinder works, but Super Edge Grinder doesn't.
Also Relentless will not work with the GBS8200.

I moved recently so I can't give it a try at the moment as my CPCs are not yet set-up.

I'm using RGBtoHDMIA kit with a 4:3 15hz Benq monitor. Many modern games don't run properly with this setup.
Recenty tried and failed:
Edge Grinder (or Super Edge Grinder not sure) -> very crappy scrolling
Sugar City -> totally unplayable
M'enfin!
