Hi everybody,
I still own my childhood Schneider CPC 6128. When I tried to show my kids the old games, I realized that it was not working anymore.
I checked the Internet and ordered a drive-belt. Today I replaced the drive-belt with the new one. But after doing this, I get the error: Drive A: disc missing.
Before I do any additional cleaning I got a question: What is supposed to happen, when I write "cat"?
Right now, I see that the disc is turning, but the head is not moving. It is just standing at the same position. Shouldn't it move?
Do you think there is an issue with the stepper motor? Is there something I could have done wrong when re-assembling the drive?
Any ideas?
Thanks for any help. Daniel
Can you take a picture of the opened Schneider so we can see how everything is connected?
Maybe a stupid question but just to be sure: Was a disc inserted when you typed CAT? If yes, then the stepper motor should move.
Do you have a multimeter? If yes, please check if the monitor provides 12V for the drive and check if the drive receives those 12V.

I can take a picture in a few days, the CPC is at my parents place. Here is a video, the disc is spinning but the head is doing nothing. I will have to get a multimeter.
I guess before I replaced the belt, it was moving, sicne there was a corresponding noisw. Now there is no noise at all.
To access to belt, you need to remove motherboard in disk drive. To do this, you need to unplug 4 cables with white connectors and then plug them back in. Maybe you may not plugged them all.

To remove the disc drive I first removed 2 cables at the back of the drive.
Then after unscrewing the green plate I unplugged 2 white connectors (one at the right and one at the left.) This way I was able to lift the green board enough to remove the old belt and at the new one. Do you think there are 2 other white connectors? I will check that.
Update: this video shows the exact revision of my drive. The guy only unplugs one white connector. I unplugged 2 for better access. Do you think one of those connectors will prevent the stepping motor to work? Or which other connector is influencing the stepping motor?
Did you thoroughly clean all the residue off the two wheels before installing the new belt? Is the disk turning at all when you CAT?
Bryce.

I did try to clean everything, but maybe not good enough. But as you can see in my video, the disc is spinning.
But the stepper motor is doing nothing.
Then check the PCB solder joints on the 2 sockets you removed the connectors from. If they have cracks then the stepper could stop working and you'll need to reflow them.
Bryce.
One of 4 white plugs has 3 wires, and this is for stepper motor.
Ok thanks guys. I will check it tomorrow and make some pictures. Thanks for any help
I guess I just found the issue:

I guess, you have to solder it...
