Howdy folks
Does anyone know of somewhere I can buy some labels for my old 3 inch disks ?
I'll need about 20 or so.
Cheers.
Hm, haven't seen any, assuming you're talking about Amsoft-like ones...
I bought glossy labels for R-Type at online labels.
Diskette Labels - Disk Labels - OL225 - 2.75" x 2.75" (http://www.onlinelabels.com/OL225.htm?src=dlc-41&sr=1058757812)
It's for 3" and 3"1/2, like on 80s.
A bit shorter that Amsoft size, it's why you can see a 1mm red line on both side on commercial games.
...I came to the conclusion that the best solution is a clean scan, ready for printing, assuming that somebody has an unused label somewhere in the drawer...

...coming soon!
You're going to produce some??
...I'm currently working on the maxell CF2 label. It's gonna take a little time though, not too much, because I couldn't find a mint old label or -most important- one unglued to the disk. So I picked the best side A, side B and ridge that I could find, scanned them properly, and the complete label is on it's way via massive photoshop retouch, to self adhesive form...
Next step is the Amsoft label and a generic CF2 label from some "made in japan" discs that got released the last years of the CPC's life.
But... Ready for printing on what?
Because, the only way to get a perfect fit is to make new custom sized stickers.
I drawn that some months ago (vectorial) to be used with "online labels" glossy sheets to relabel tested Amsoft floppies.
But... I'm not sure that peoples can be interested to buy recycled floppies like that.
...on regular A4 glossy self adhesive sheet, and then cutted -by hand- one by one! Tricky, but I think our old trustworthy discs that survived the test of time, need some refreshing reward!
OK. So, no rounded corners.
But sure, it will be probably less expensive and enough for that use. :)
...I'm perfectly capable of making rounded corners with scissors, I'm doing that since kindergarten :P so off course there will be rounded corners!
I'm a little troubled with the silver color of the maxell label though, will be look like enough silverish, when printed with an inkjet? I'm currently using the #C0C0C0 silver variation.
I can't said which gray shade is close to the silver Amsoft label. (neither for red too)
You will need to make some tests to get a close printed colours depending of your printer capabilities.
@Ace: I think rounded corners are a must, but I don't think a pair of scissors will have a perfect result... Also, silver really cannot be reproduced by a home printer. For both these reasons I think you should use a professional service - I don't think they'd be so expensive (was looking at custom stickers on Etsy the other day).
@TotO: ooh, those look nice!!!!
@Both: maybe there should be a detail signifying this is a 'remake', not an original, as with everything remade, so as they're not sold as originals by someone...
Amsoft Certified MEdia, that made me laugh hard... :D
;D
I found some plain labels, thanks to Toto above. Nowt special, but all I needed:

Fit the disk pretty well. Rounded corners, too...
...here is an early WIP. Hope you like it! Full edited -ready to print- label, coming soon!

...colossus?
Had been more easy to start from a clean label and redraw all over.
...but unfortunately I don't have the skills. Anyway the label is almost done and it's really looking terrific! Considering that I have too much "real life" the project goes on really fast. Full .bmp image -ready to print- coming soon! Next target the Amsoft label but this one will be more easy as I have 2-3 discs in very good condition!
Good ! :)

Nice work!
I think it could benefit from some vectorizing...

I was going to start the label panasonic but people gave me some comments so I fixed things on the maxell and it really the latest version I have other things going on
Edit: All the lines are straight, red ribbons are completely redone. The little character were cleaned of pixels too. The gray was lighter because too dark when you print it.
Print quality varies greatly depending on the printer used.
THIS IS THE LAST RELEASE 8) enjoy !
Nice work!
I was wondering if a 3" inch disk could be created with a 3D printer...

The disk: NO ;D but the plastic parts: of course; you can re-create any boxes, bezels etc...with such printer.
Hehe! Obviously not the magnetic media and the spring, but it would be nice to have a replica 3" disk when they are completely exhausted.
Here are the prototype of the label Amsoft ..:-D I looking for a vector logo Amsoft but impossible to find because the compagny does not exist anymore .. unless somebody have the police ..
Waiting for final, or this can be edited:
