I've seen all the various Sd card add ons for the multitude of 8/16bit computers and consoles but i've seen none for the original Cpc. Are they only for the plus range? It would seem to me that a big trick is being missed if there is no such device for the original Cpc range!
What are people's experiences with hooking up the original Cpc's to Mp3 players/smart phones that are playing downloaded game files through those old in car cassette adaptors? Is that a way I could go for an instant big game collection? Is that method generally successful with loading or is it unreliable? I am building up a nice steady collection on tape but naturally i want more and i want it fast!!! Any advice/tips gratefully received. :)
On the Amstrad 464/464+ there is an USB Floppy Emulator by Zaxon, visit the SellMyRetro site.
For the Amstrad 6128 is available a similar product for the Disk Drive Port, or a cable to connect a Gotek Drive external or internal (also a real Disk Drive 3.5").
Zaxon also has a USB Drive for internal connection.
For CPC 6128+ is possible to connect a Gotek always internally or externally.
In the End here you can find the C4CPC Cartridge for PLUS series which can load cpr files o cpr converted ones.

The HxC Floppy emulator from Jeff works on any CPC with a floppy controller.

I'm using a Tevion cassette adaptor. It took some time for me to find out that some laptops have a better line-out jack... so if you get read errors you could play with the tools parameters or try another laptop/pc.
I'm extracting files from DSK images with
cpcfs. (With header which is the default.) Then I convert each file to WAV with
cpc2tape.
On CPC side I use
Locksmith to copy the tape input to disk. (Locksmith requires a longer pause between blocks, or you have to press pause in your WAV player after every block, because Locksmith needs some time to write the block to disc.)
Locksmith seems not to be able to copy BASIC files that have binary code appended, so just do it without Locksmith using LOAD and SAVE.
Locksmith is just perfect for bulk copy.
Parameters that work best for me r=rate, s=silence/pause:
cpc2tape -v -r 5000 -s 30000 file.binOnce you are familiar with the tool chain it works great, but - as you probably know - tape is rather slow.
