Title: USB floppy emulator
Post by: 00WReX on 11:21, 27 January 12
Has anybody tried one of these...been doing a bit of reading, mainly around Keyboard forums and they seem to work. I don't see why they would not work on the CPC. May have to get one to have a play with unless someone tells me it's a really dumb idea and why.  :)

On ebay they tend to advertise them as either 1.44mb or 720kb, but from what I've read they all do both.

or simply go to your local ebay and type "floppy emulator" in the search...a few should appear.

Cheers,
Shane

They only handle DOS formats, so you couldn't use DSK images with it. They are also limited to 100 disks per memory stick, which makes things rather awkward too. Better off spending a little more on a HxC which is made to handle all the 8 bit formats you need and can have many more disk images than 100.

Yes, but at the moment I'm only using a conventional 3.5 inch drive, so 100 disc's on a USB stick (that are very cheap these days for 1 or 2GB) would be handy. These things vary in price...and a few different types, so may be a gamble.

Hmmm, interesting.

Cheers,
Shane

You're using a conventional 3.5" disk, but not with a DOS format.

00WReX, this has been discussed in some detail in the past in this forum, do a search and you'll be enlightened :)

Oh OK, I'll have another look.
I did a couple of searches but did not find any reference to these, kept coming up with the HxC type devices.

Sorry for bringing up an old topic.

Cheers,
Shane

Not a problem mate, not at all; I was just saying that you might find more details is all!

Thanks mate, appreciate that...exactly what I was after.

Buggered if I could find that. I searched for "USB floppy" & "floppy emu" but did not find it.

Cheers,
Shane
