Title: Using both 3.5 and 5.25 Disk Drives
Post by: Flonky_Tash on 06:26, 05 April 18
Hello!

I've recently got a 5.25 disk drive to work with my 6128. I also have an external 3.5 disk drive as well. I was wondering is it possible to have both drives connected to the CPC with one cable? So I don't have to keep swapping the cables over when I want to use either drive.

Cheers!

You could put a toggle switch to flip the Drive Select signal to the correct drive, then you could switch between drives without having to disconnect them every time.

Interesting! Excellent idea. I did think about making some kind of switch box, which could have an ABBA switch, a side switch and now the drive select switch. This should be good little project :)

With reference to the standard 34 pin floppy cable... I see there are 3 disk select pins,10 - DS0, 12 - DS1 and 14 - DS2. If I was going to put in a toggle switch, which one would be the correct one to use?

ALSO, if I was to implement such a switch box... Where would be the best place for it to work? I'm thinking in between the two drives, would that be correct? I'm not sure.

It will need to be before the two drives.
