Title: What are some common floppy drive simulators and SD carts for the CPC?
Post by: Mozartkügel on 14:08, 01 November 19
Hi guys! What are some common floppy drive simulators and SD carts for the CPC? Are there some good common / popular ones? Equalients to perhaps the Ultimate 2+ cart or DivMMC on the C64 and Speccy or something like SD2IEC on the C64?

I saw there was Gotek's for sale for the CPC  on ebay at least.

Does anyone happen to have experience about if it's a big hassle to have the same gotek for an Amiga, ST and a CPC? Or will I have to start saving up for several? -_-;

Depends on your CPC if you will need a disk controller or not.If you use search function here, you will find lots and lots of info :-)

Take a look for the HxC floppy emulator. I got three of them and they work very well. There is also the Gotek, but I never had one.  :)

Yes, both HxC and Gotek are excellent choices for the 6128. For the 464, you will need a DDI-1 Interface also.
Or get the DDI-3... which is nice.

Hey, thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys! I did a search but there were so many results that it got a little overwhelming and I didn't know where to start, but this helps, thanks!

Ahaa, thanks for letting me know about the DDI interface, I will look those up.

Loading from the computer with tape adapter will do meanwhile, I even like loading from tape, the only downside is when starting developing something it'd be nice to have a faster way to test than tape.

By the way, does anyone know if there is some android app that can play CPC tape files so that I could load them from the phone instead of the computer if I'd want to do that without converting the tapes to audio first?

A good tape simulator hardware wise is https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/539346169/tzxduino-cassette-player-replacement-for?ref=related-2 (https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/539346169/tzxduino-cassette-player-replacement-for?ref=related-2)
Well made and can be used on other machines if you desire    I find hardware emulators for tape much better than the software phone type but your mileage may vary!

i also recommend an M4 by duke for dev and fast loading (look here http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/amstrad-cpc-hardware/amstrad-cpc-wifi/ (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/amstrad-cpc-hardware/amstrad-cpc-wifi/) ) and a cheap and interesting options that works well is a serial interface to PC by ikonsgr (look here http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/amstrad-cpc-hardware/universal-serial-interface-for-amstrad-cpc/ (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/amstrad-cpc-hardware/universal-serial-interface-for-amstrad-cpc/) )

You may also want an MX4 motherboard (Duke or toto ) and a 512K memory board (toto does XMEM for 464 and 6128)

I also have a gotek that works well but once you use the M4 a real emulator like gotek seems real slow!

Yes the choices are a bit overwhelming when you first start looking on the forums for me too but people are helpful and this is what i got that worked!

shifters!

You can also look into the LambdaBoard, which is like Mother4X but has the edge connector passthrough (if you care for CPC 464 legacy expansions such as DKtronics stuff or the DDI-1 interface, or you want to connect the DDI3 directly and have M4 expansion ports as well)
